Tourism\u00a0has become more popular in the last\u00a020 years\u00a0after the government was able to control terrorism and political issues within the country. It&#8217;s a beautiful country with a lot to see. Agriculture is the main industry within the country and can be seen both in the lowlands, valleys, high in the rocky Andes Mountains and even the Amazon. It&#8217;s neat when you see them roaming free up in the hills as opposed to on the side of the road with locals who are looking for money from tourists for a photo. The homes\u00a0looked like\u00a0they\u00a0were under continual construction and had\u00a0no construction standards, just people building what they could afford. Generally the smaller towns and cities had electricity while the farming areas and islands had nothing.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.seismicwave.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/P1120017.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-4829\" src=\"http:\/\/www.seismicwave.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/P1120017-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"p1120017\" width=\"257\" height=\"196\" \/><\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-4835\" src=\"http:\/\/www.seismicwave.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/P1120097-300x174.jpg\" alt=\"p1120097\" width=\"250\" height=\"150\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The house we stayed in on\u00a0Amantani Island,\u00a0other than having low doors,\u00a0was very good compared to the mainland.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.seismicwave.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/P1110964.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-4824\" src=\"http:\/\/www.seismicwave.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/P1110964-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"p1110964\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.seismicwave.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/P1110964-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.seismicwave.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/P1110964-400x300.jpg 400w, http:\/\/www.seismicwave.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/P1110964.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Transport, like any 3rd world country, is very innovative in getting the locals about; anything from 3-wheeled motorcycles to trucks loaded full with people. The road system was actually really good on the whole. Buses were good. Around the Andes&#8217; towns the locals typically walked the many trails high into the hills. Interestingly we were told that most of the markets sell acrylic products and tell the tourists its alpaca wool. Who are we to know the difference I guess. Buyer beware!
